Belfort is proud to announce our new
eco-program – “Be
Green.” For years, Belfort has been a leader in recycling
with over 200 tons of cardboard recycled each year. With our new “Be
Green” initiative, we are committed to sustain our renewable
resources in our community by planting a tree for every delivery
we make. This program is a partnership with the Virginia Department
of Forestry to restore the forests in our local communities.

In
2007, we made 26,000 deliveries to customers all over the Washington,
DC metropolitan area. We have donated 26,000 seedlings to the
Department of Forestry to restore Virginia woodlands. Why trees?
Trees absorb the carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and store
it in their leaves, trunk, branches, and soil, and in turn, release
oxygen back out. Trees are a renewable and sustainable resource
and create the beautiful environment that surrounds us. We hope
to set an example to our employees and customers, alike, by contributing
to the solution.
The seedlings will be distributed to local schools
and Arbor Day events throughout the communities we serve. This
is our contribution to future generations to help offset carbon
dioxide emissions, reduce erosion, and provide shelter to wildlife.
