The Designer's Comments on the Makeover

This year's $10,000 makeover winners were lots of fun to work with. They have two young daughters, so I needed to fill their expansive master bedroom with pieces that are both functional, yet durable and, of course, gorgeous. They have a true love for the warm breezes of the Caribbean and they wanted to recreate the mood from their travels abroad. The biggest challenge was the size of the master bedroom. The room is very spacious. The main goal was to not overfill the space, but to choose tasteful and functional pieces.

I selected colors for the walls and ceiling that reminded them of the warm blues of the ocean and sky. The king-sized poster bed also helped to accentuate the cathedral ceiling. I then chose a display cabinet that functioned as a chest and curio which will serve as a dedicated place to show their souvenirs from their travels abroad. The sitting room is a comfortable place for the family to relax in the morning before going downstairs. I put a little writing desk in the corner of the sitting room which is a nice place to handle personal correspondence and view the beautiful bedroom. The round center table features a beautiful family portrait.

I was thrilled to be selected to design the new master suite. I am certain Renee and Phil will enjoy it for years to come.

Designers Note: At the owner's request, paintings, mirrors, and wall accessories were not attached to the wall. Unfortunately, the room does not appear complete due to the finishing touches that were missing and not properly placed on the walls.
