History

about us

Belfort Furniture first opened its doors in 1982 in Fair Oaks Mall in Fairfax, Virginia. At that time Belfort sold exclusive European furniture, specializing in "shrunks" (European wall units) and unique accessories. This operation was a sister store to the family owned furniture business in Germany. In 1987 Michael and Kristi Huber expanded their retail business, focusing on American furniture. They moved their business to a small showroom in Herndon, Virginia. This was the start of Belfort Furniture, as it is known today.

  • In the early days, Mike Huber sold and delivered the furniture. What started out as a small business, in an obscure industrial park, quickly grew in five years to employing 25 people. The showroom expanded to over 20,000 square feet and the warehouse to over 15,000 square feet.
  • In 1993 Belfort Furniture moved to a prime location in the Dulles corridor in Ashburn, Virginia. The new 35,000 square foot showroom featured Pennsylvania House Gallery, Stanley, and Lane, plus many other national name brands.
  • The steady growth prompted Huber to purchase land directly across from the retail shopping center and build an 86,000-square foot facility, which now is home to Belfort Basics and the Clearance Center.
  • Today, Belfort Furniture owns a 13.5 acre tract that consists of Belfort Galleries occupying 35,000 square feet, featuring name brands such as Bernhardt, Belfort Signature, Broyhill, Lane, Stanley, Clayton Marcus, Craftmaster, and Hooker.
  • Belfort Interiors includes the leather gallery, casual dining, home entertainment, home office, home theatre seating, and reclining furniture. You will find name brands like Natuzzi leather, Hooker, Stanley, and Lane, to name a few.
  • Basics, with over 20,000 square feet, features lifestyle furniture where room settings are coordinated for customers, taking the guesswork out of decorating. Belfort Kids and Mattress, a 10,000 square foot store features Washington's best selection of youth furniture including sleigh, loft, bunk, storage beds, as well as, theme beds.
  • Belfort Mattress has Washington's largest selection of Sealy Posturepedic and Stearns and Foster mattresses, as well as Tempur-Pedic.
  • All stores are located in one convenient location, making Belfort Washington's premier furniture park.
